At Conley's, we’re first and foremost plant people – and like all plant people we have our special interests.  Among them are:

Dwarf Conifers.  More ands more people are discovering the virtues of these wonderful plants: year-round beauty combined with hardiness and - mirabile dictu! - low maintenance.  Our nursery and landscape staffs are very experienced in the use of dwarf conifers, and we have the finest selection in our sales area, including not only Boothbay Harbor, Boothbay, East Boothbay, Southport, and Edgecomb, but also other nearby communities, including Wiscasset, Newcastle, Damariscotta, Bristol/South Bristol, Walpole, New Harbor, Round Pond, Pemaquid, and Westport Island – and well beyond!  For more information on Dwarf Conifers please click the link.

Japanese Maples.  These trees are among the aristocrats of the plant world.  Cultivated commercially for hundreds of years there are many, many varieties.  Our nursery carries a nice selection, at varying sizes and prices, of uprights in both red and green leaf, dissected leaf varieties (mostly weeping) in red and green leaf, some dwarfs, and a few variegated varieties.  Besides general stature and color, there is also variability in size and shape, hardiness, tendency to burn in too much strong sun, and other qualities.  We'll be happy to discuss with you what Japanese Maples might work to enhance your property.  Come have a look!

Bonsai.  One of our favorite subjects!  All the usual plant cultural and aesthetic challenges – and rewards – in one little (sometimes not so little) package.  We have a small collection in our greenhouse, a few plants of which we’ve worked on for the better part of 20 years, but our enthusiasm goes far beyond this.  If you’re interested in the subject, come in and talk.  If you’re a beginner or thinking of becoming one, we can lend you a book.  If you’re interested in a plant to try your hand on, we can help you pick one.  If you’re interested in where you can see world-class bonsai, we can point you.  The subject – including the story of the tree pictured – is endlessly fascinating, as you will further find if you click this link.

Cacti and Succulents.  We love them!  They make great house plants.  In addition to being beautiful, they are for the most part very easy to care for.  So long as you don’t over-water them, cactii and succulents ask very little in exchange for what they give you back.  As with bonsai, we’re happy to just talk about a subject that really interests us, even if you’re not a buyer.  If you are looking for a plant or two, our greenhouse has some nice ones to offer – and if we don’t have what you like, we can give you some advice on where you’ll be able to finds a more comprehensive selection.  And experienced or beginner, here is a link to useful cultural information.
